One film genre which I enjoy very much are 1970's and 80's Kung-Fu Films. This genre as many know is from China, and my favorite company would have to be the Shaw Brothers Productions. And any film with Bruce Lee in it is automatically awesome. Below are some links to three of my favorite films.
Today I wish to talk about another favorite food of mine, spaghetti. I have grown up eating spaghetti and I crave it often. Even though my mom's is the best, I found some other recipes that I found were fairly good, and I have listed them below. Try them out, and enjoy! My favorite Chef, Alton Brown's recipe
I really enjoy dogs, they are my favorite pet and I own a beagle myself. And since I miss him I thought I'd post a picture of a beagle today!
Today, I wish to again talk about one of my favorite artsits. Chuck Close is an incredible painter and photographer, and is often overlooked. His paintings are so recognizable and yet very few people know about him. His portraits are outstanding, and his techniques used are very interesting. Below is a link to his wikipedia page which talks about his works and artistic technique.
Recently, everyone has been talking about the new movie, Watchmen. Watchmen is a very popluar graphic novel written by the anarchist, Alan Moore. In his comic books, Moore focuses on touchy topics including politics and human morals, and less about the actual "superhero" which sets him apart from many other comic book authors. Moore has publicly stated that he does not like any of the films that his books are based on. Compared to some of the other films based on his comics, I found this one to be one of the weaker films. It received very mixed reviews, and a lot of the story depends on the audience to have read the story beforehand. The following are some interesting reviews that I found on the film, both positive and negative. San Francisco Chronicle positive review New York Daily News mixed review
To continue the “favorites” theme, I thought I would write about my favorite musicians. I enjoy a variety of music, ranging from dance to hip-hop to hard rock. I really enjoy bands if they have a signature sound, where you can tell that it is a song of theirs, even though you may have never heard it before. Below are some of my favorite bands and links to their websites: The (International) Noise Conspiracy
I really enjoy food, so I though that this week I would include some great recipes for my favorite dessert, cheesecake. I enjoy cheesecake because it is sweet and yet not too sweet, and also a slice is generally the right amount for me. There are hundreds of different types of cheesecakes, and my favorite ever would have to be pumpkin pie cheesecake. Below are some delicious recipes for you to enjoy! A Recipe for Classic Cheesecake Cheesecake with Ricotta Cheese Recipe for the Cheesecake Factory's Pumpkin Cheesecake
Since I had some of my favorite directors last week, this week I will include some of my favorite painters. Out of all of the different areas of art, I especially enjoy Surrealism. I enjoy how it has no meaning, and yet the viewer automatically creates a meaning to the painting the instant that they see it. My favorite artists are Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte. I especially enjoy Magritte’s simplicity and unique style. Links to their paintings are shown below.
Rene Magritte: The Lovers
Salvador Dali: Woman in the Window
Salvador Dali: Temptation of Saint Anthony
Here is my first blog entry for ARTC331 My artwork is inspired a lot by films and the themes or images portrayed in them. When looking for inspiration, I often look at films that are visually very striking, and are able to portray major themes through its cinematography and imagery. This helps me to portray my own messages with my own work. Some of my other favorite directors are listed below, along with a website featuring their work: Stanley Kubrick - http://www.indelibleinc.com/kubrick/ David Lynch - http://www.davidlynch.de/ Michel Gondry - http://www.director-file.com/gondry/ Jean Pierre Jeunet - http://www.jeanpierrejeunet.com/ |
