Objectives:

To create a public art sculture that represents the voices of people around the world who believe in peace.
To give people the opportunity to contribute to the creation of the piece.

The Project:

I am an Ohio-based artist with a desire to send a nationwide message of peace. I need your help in constructing a larger-than-life-sized army bunker out of pillows. I ask you to contriubte by writing a message of peace on a pillowcase and sending it (and a new or used pillow if possible) to me. I will then construct a sculpture in the form of a bunker where each of these pillows become a sandbag, and individual messages can be read by the public.

After the exhibition, the pillowcases will be sewn together to form a huge quilt. The pillows themselves will then be donated to many local charities.

Upon completion of this project a list of participants along with photographs of the finished project will be posted on this website. You may choose to include your name or remain anonymous - either choice is respected! Thank you for your participation!

This project is part of LINKS | Public Art <-> Bowling Green project: a "collaborative art project consisting of public art works that address issues of site, history, space, self, and culture."

What to write on your pillowcase:
  • You can choose to write a poem in the name of peace or perhaps a quote you may have heard that sends a message of peace.
  • You could also write why you believe in peace, or make it as simple writing "PEACE" across the pillowcase. It can be as long or as short as you want. You may sign it if you wish.
  • You may even choose to draw or paint a picture that expresses how you feel. The importance is that you EXPRESS YOUR PEACEFUL VOICE in whatever way you feel strongest. Be creative. Use permanent markers or dyes on your pillowcase.
* Please be wise in your choice of language for children may be present when the exhibit opens.
