Women's Space
Wood County Historical Center and Museum, 13660 County Home Road

This installation focuses on the confinement and mental state of women who lived in the attic of the Wood County Infirmary during the late 1800ís and early 1900ís. While some of these confined women were legitimately mentally ill, others were merely labeled ìinsaneî and still others were by todayís standards considered healthy. Womenís Space sheds light on the personal stories of these women and also brings the ideas of constraint and control into the public eye. It is my hope that this project will shed light on the past, while also providing a better understanding of womanís mental health issues today.
