File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

"File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to exchange and manipulate files over a TCP/IP based network, such as the Internet." (wikipedia)


FTP is the normal way to upload your files to your server, which is what displays your website online.


Dreamweaver has built-in FTP functionality, and allows for auto-uploading, upon saving a file.


"Local": (as in "Local view" or "Local files")

Refers to file(s) on the computer you are currently working on. Local files do NOT show up online.


"Remote": (as in "Remote view" or "Remote files")

Refers to file(s) on your server (the computer that actually displays your website online). Remote files DO show up online.

1) You can edit a "Site" by double clicking on it's name in the dropdown of the FILES tab.
