General outline of ARTC 414 plans

17 weeks (include 1 week of spring break)

Section One: Pre-production
Total of 2 weeks
Two weeks of final story reel of timing with sound

  1. Breakdown your shot following the actions.
  2. Pre-sound with you existing: Working with Audition (This State you should try very hard to get the timing right on your sound.)
  3. Timing and Composite sound onto the action shot for the final your story reel.

Section Two: Production
Total of 13 weeks

  1. Three weeks of modeling, texturing, and lighting
    1.1. Checking and cleaning the topology of models for animation
    1.2. Testing the resolution on joint placement with Smooth bind technique
  2. Three weeks of rigging;
    2.1. Body Rigging: Basic level is just enough for animation
    2.2. Body Rigging: Intermediate level is for adding stylistic of expression.
    2.3. Facial Rigging: Basic Level
    2.4. Facial Rigging: Intermediate Level Skinning:
    2.5. The Smooth Skin Bind Pose vs. Rigid Skin Bind Pose
  1. Three weeks of blocking and breakdown states of animation
    3.1. Blocking State; this state, you will create an extreme keys of your action, which can be call Pose to Pose tech. A single pose of your character(s) in each action on the shot(s) must convincingly express the emotion even if without the facial expression.
    3.2. Breakdown state; is to add a second state of your extreme keys ( I usually call second extreme keys and you may need a third extreme keys) to define the subtitle or direction of your motion without going in the Inbetweens State.
  2. Four weeks of animating: Define the motion through animation function curves
    4.1. The Inbetweens State; controlling the function curves after default Inbetweens have been created by Maya function curves. (F-curves)
    4.2. Finish up your final animation

Section Three: Post-production
Total of 2 weeks
Two weeks of rendering and post production

  1. Render with layers
  2. Compositing and Editing
  3. Final Outputs and All Everything Together
