Project #1: Video Scavenger Hunt
Source Tapes & Log Sheets Due: Monday, August 30
**Please cue tape to your best shot to show in class.

There are many, many steps in producing a video piece. Development and Pre-production includes concept development, script, storyboard, finding talent and locations, acquiring equipment, etc. Production includes the actual shooting of the raw elements and everything involved with lighting, cameras, etc. Post-production is the final editing, sound track creation, and any visual effects. Distribution is getting the final film out into the public.

For this project, you will focus on the PRODUCTION. We are sending you out on a "Video Scavenger Hunt" to gather sources for a TBD production. You are coming fresh off the Shooting Workshop, so your goal is to make the HIGHEST QUALITY clips possible. You will be graded on: Composition, Color, and overall quality of the shots.

You will randomly select: a subject, actions, and locations in class. Fill in your selections in the chart below. You then have until the next class to hunt for (OR SET UP) and SHOOT each scene.

Technical RULES / Requirements:

  1. You must use a Tripod when shooting. (or stabilize your camera somehow i.e. no shaky, hand-held shots!)
  2. You must use the Manual Focus when shooting.
  3. You must White Balance your camera before each shot.
  4. Each shot should last 15 seconds to 1 minute depending on the speed of the action.
  5. Use the info from Reading #1 to help you determine HOW to best set up your shot.
  6. Complete a LOG SHEET while you are shooting, and hand it in with your tape
    >> download pdf or xls file <<
  7. Be sure to bring the final tape to next class, cued to your best shot.

Suggested Techniques:

** If you draw an "Establishing Shot" as subject, you leave action blank, and draw a location.
** If you draw a "WILDCARD"... shoot anything you like, but make it AWESOME!
