Set Up and Use Your Progress Blog
FIRST PREPARE IMAGE FOR HEADER:
***USE the Photoshop template to add your image. Make an image that is 800 wide x 250 high JPG and place it in the template. The Blog template chops off a part of your image and this template file compensates for that. Make sure you turn off the "Turn off before Saving" folder in the Photoshop Layers. Flatten image and save as JPG.
Create a blog on blogs.bgsu.edu.
á Login with your BGSU username
á Click My Sites
á Select Dashboard
By default, it will create the blog with your username and this blog will be for you to use throughout the time you are at BGSU.
Create another blog for the class: _
Go to blogs.bgsu.edu and log in
á Click My Sites
á Choose your username blog
á choose Dashboard
á Choose My Sites from the menu on the left
á Create a New Site_
Specs for new site:
á Under Site Name type:
o artc4180username - replace username with YOUR username. It is IMPORTANT to use this naming scheme.__
á Blog Title
o Your NameÕs Senior Studio Progress_
á It does not matter if you want your blog to appear in the search engine.
á Click Create Site
á Now Login to the new site you just created.
á Set up theme:
o On the menu at the left, Click the Appearance - Themes:
o Find the Mandigo_theme and click Activate "Mandigo"
o Click Customize to add a relevant tagline (in menu on left), like ÒFall 2017Ó
Add your picture to your site:
á Dashboard - Appearance section select Header _(You need to have an image ready to go that you created with the template above! )_
á Click Add New Image and select your image.
á If you followed the template instructions above, DO NOT CROP, choose skip crop.
á Click the ÒEditÓ button next to Hello World to add a title for the first day. You can also add an entry here that is relevant to your blog.
á Click update
á Click save and publish
Customize your side bar in the following way:
á Go to the dashboard of your site.
á On the left side you will see a paint brush icon, this is Appearance
á click Appearance - Widgets then
á Click Calendar, sidbar 1_- Add Widget
á Click Archives in the Sidebar 1 column and Delete
á Click Categories in the Sidebar 1 column and Delete
You will be left with:
á Set Discussion specs:
Click Settings (Icon on the left)Ð Discussion and
UNCHECK - Comment author must have a previously
UNCHECK - Comment is held for moderation
á Adding to your blog
1. To add something to your blog, use the POSTS - Add New - Don't forget to click Publish
2. To change a posting, use the Edit - Don't forget to click Update Post
3. To add images to a blog page, use the Media - Add New link. Use the Browser Uploader if you have any problems.
4. To see how it looks, click the Òview postsÓ button.
DonÕt Use Pages Ð use Posts instead.
We will be using the blog to post ideas, research, exercises and assignments as well as using it to critique all work.
