Collaborative Multimedia Development

This course is designed for art students who already have experience
working with interface design, multimedia, digital audio, and/or 3D animation and video.
Digital audio and/or Maya and working on large-scale multimedia projects for non-profit
organizations or Bowling Green State University. The course is designed to give real-world
experience to students by granting maximum responsibility for the development of a
professional product that will be published and seen by the public. The students may
work in groups or independently to produce the multimedia project. Some projects may
involve multiple media (video, printouts, audio, etc) others may be primarily a single
media. All projects will involve the use of creative art/audio skills as well as technical
knowledge of multimedia development. The students select a project and team member on the
first week of classes and then make weekly progress on the project. The students are expected
to work independently and in teams throughout the week and meet once a week with the instructor

You will be expected to back up your data a minimum of once a week.
Each student is expected to show significant progress on a weekly basis.
The student is responsible for the completion of the project, therefore the scope of the project
must be carefully planned. There is a tendency to discuss the design for many weeks shortcutting the
time needed to complete the project. Therefore design ideas must be worked out in the first two weeks
of class and production must begin in the third.
During class time, students are expected to engage in meaningful classroom participation.
Attendance is mandatory. You are required to meet with the professor on Thursdays and
work with your group on Tuesdays.
1 absences = no penalty
2 absences = overall final grade lowered 1 letter grade
3 absences = overall final grade lowered 2 letter grades
4 absences = fail the course; dropping the course strongly recommended.
You must also set up a regular schedule and meet with your team member for an additional 2-3 hours per week.
Independent workers are excluded from this requirement. You must inform the instructor as to when you will be
meeting with your team member outside of class.
|Grades will be based on attendance at the weekly meetings, significant weekly progress on the project,
and the final outcome of the project. All projects are expected to be completed by the end of the semester.
Projects are expected to be of professional quality.

Digital Arts Department Rules
• No food or drink in the lab.
• No cell phones, or beepers on during class. ALWAYS remember to turn off your cellphone before class.
• No sleeping during class.
• Hardware: No student is permitted to disconnect, reconnect, or reconfigure any workstation without the permission of a digital arts instructor. Any problems with hardware or software must be reported to a digital arts professor, preferably by email. Report should include name of workstation and exact nature of problem.
Projects created in any Digital Arts course may be used by the ART department for the purpose of promoting the student,
the department and/or the university in general. These materials may also be used by the ART department for instructional
purposes in future courses. Please inform the instructor if you do not want your projects used.
