Two Prints From CAT lab Thursday October 25 - Class 18

Brief

Use Photoshop and Painter to make 6 conceptually cohesive works that fit together as a body of work.

Objectives

To grasp the idea of a body of work that holds together as a conceptual whole. This includes furthering skills in personal idea development. Topics discussed in readings are good places to start. Finally, to continue to develop technical and formal skills using the software.

Methodology

Reflect on readings, contemporary issues, peer artwork, and artwork by artists you respect. From this, consider things that are meaningful to you that will give you a sense of pleasure to visualize, and that seem to you as something you could successfully complete. Use your journal to sketch and write about these ideas. Turn these thoughts into 6 images that hold together as a cohisve body of work.

Constraints

Create 6 Images

Build on Photoshop CS3 and Painter X skills for for this project. Avoid purely abstract works. Use this project as an opportunity to explore subject matter you may not have attempted previously. Incorporate ideas related to readings assigned to this point of the semester.

Submission Requirements

Journal
Turn in a COPY of your journal entry. It will include:

1) Sketch and describe your work.
2) Write about the concept behind your images.

Final Images

Create a folder called "Midterm" in your individual class folder. Put all 6 images in that folder.

All images must be 8MB or smaller and saved in the TIFF (.tif) format

Prints

Choose any two prints from your midterm that you would like to print. You have the option of taking your files to the CAT lab on your own or submitting them in the class print folder by October 21st at 12 noon. We will discuss details in class.

Grading

You will be graded on your ability to follow and complete the assignment.

You will be graded on concept, formal qualities (composition, color, etc.), and technical mastery.

This project will be averaged with the other projects, assignments, and you participation grade. However, this Midterm project will be weighted by two.

Please note

Ask any questions during the project in class or contact me by email or stop by office hours to clarify any questions you have about the project.
