The BGSU School of Art offers two undergraduate degrees:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in a studio art
- Bachelor of Art (BA) in Art or Art History
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe BFA degree is geared toward professional studio artists. A minor is not required although some students choose to add a minor, which generally adds an additional year of study.
BFA students may choose from the following majors:- Art Education (with a specialization in 2D Studies or 3D Studies)*
- Digital Arts (includes Computer Animation, Digital Imaging and Interactive Media)
- Graphic Design (includes Advertising Design, ID Design, Three-Dimensional Design and Typography)
- Three-Dimensional Studies (includes Ceramics, Fibers, Glass, Jewelry/Metals and Sculpture)
- Two-Dimensional Studies (includes Drawing, Painting, Photography and Printmaking)
* Degrees in Art Education cannot be completed in four years and require an extended amount of time to complete all education requirements.
A minor is not required although some students choose to add a minor, which generally adds an additional year of study. Bowling Green offers minors in Arts Management, Entrepreneurship and Marketing for students who want to combine art and business. Minors are listed in the BGSU Undergraduate Catalog
LEARNING OUTCOMES- Demonstrate proficiency of technical abilities within the studio media.
- Engage in and apply scholarly and/or creative research in visual, written and oral context.
- Demonstrate and understanding of the professional practices maintained in the respective areas of study.
- Apply knowledge of art history, criticism and theory to the practice of the visual arts.
Students in the BFA program must complete at least 80 hours in a variety of studio and art history courses. By the end of the freshman year students, in consultation with a School of Art adviser, students select an area of concentration from Art Education, Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Three-Dimensional Studies and Two-Dimensional Studies. The curriculum allows students the flexibility to design a program of study best suited to the individual's skills and special interests.
The BFA degree requires the equivalent of two years of the same foreign language in high school or the equivalent classes at BGSU. It requires two general education sciences, three social sciences, five arts and humanities classes and three non-studio electives.
Students will get a high level of studio art experience with the BFA degree. No minor is required
for this degree.

Admission to the BGSU School of Art as a BFA degree candidate is a two-step process - In addition to your application
to the University, you must successfully complete a portfolio review for the School of Art. This requirement must be
met by Saturday, March 29, 2008 for admission into the School as a BFA student for the Fall 2008 term.

Art or
Art History
and a minor in another (non-art) area of study.

The BA art degree requires 36 hours of art for the major. It is a broad based degree with no specialization and the availability of upper level studio classes is limited. This degree requires that a student have the equivalent of four years of the same language in high school or the equivalent courses at BGSU. The BA degree also requires three science classes (two of which must be lab classes), one math class, six social sciences, and five arts & humanities classes.

Students pursuing the BA degree are required to have a minor. BGSU offers minors in Arts Management, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing for students who want to combine art and business. Students who have chosen to get a BA degree have gone into career fields such as art therapy, medical illustration, non-profit arts, or entrepreneurship fields relating to art.

This degree requires that a student have the equivalent of four years of the same language in high school or equivalent courses at BGSU. The BA Art History degree also requires three science classes (two of which must be lab classes), one math class, six social sciences, and five arts & humanities classes.

Students pursuing the BA Art History degree are required to have a minor. Students who have chosen to get a BA Art History degree have gone into career fields such as arts administration, museums and art galleries, non-profit arts, and arts publishing.
